The IC694BEM331 is a Genius Bus Controller Module, part of the GE / Emerson PACSystems RX3i product family.

This module is primarily used to connect the PACSystems RX3i to the Genius serial I/O bus.

It is a single-slot module that can pass Genius blocks, PLCs using Genius bus controllers, remote I/O drops,

VersaMax, and field-distributed I/Os.

It is capable of exchanging up to 128 bytes of data with each Genius I/O device and receiving 128 bytes of global data.

Up to eight (8) IC694BEM331 modules can be installed in an RX3i system.

The Genius Bus Controller IC694BEM331 interfaces the PACSystems RX3i with the Genius I/O serial bus.

In addition to the bus controller, the bus can be used for Genius blocks, other PLCs with Genius bus controllers, and remote data sets,

VersaMax and field control I/O stations, Genius handheld monitors (HHM), and multiple host computers.

Functionality

The bus controller can exchange up to 128 bytes with each device on the Genius I/O bus.

Genius blocks and other devices on the bus automatically report faults, alarms, and certain other predefined conditions to the Bus Controller.

The bus controller stores any diagnostic information it receives, which is www.abb-drive.com automatically read by the CPU. The CPU reads this information automatically. The faults can then be displayed in a fault table using programmed software.

The bus controller supports all Genius datagrams.

The bus controller can send up to 128 bytes of global data per bus scan.

A bus controller can receive up to 128 bytes of global data per bus scan from other bus controllers on its bus.

An RX3i system can contain up to eight Genius Bus Controllers.

LED Indicators

The LEDs on the front of the Genius Bus Controller indicate its operational status. Both LEDs should be lit during normal operation.

OK displays the status of the bus controller. This LED is illuminated when power-up diagnostics are complete.

COM shows the status of the Genius communications bus. This LED is always on when the bus is operating normally.

It blinks during intermittent bus errors and goes out during bus failures. This LED is also off when no configuration is received from the CPU.

The IC694BEM331 supports transmission rates of 153.5Kbaud standard/extended, 76.8Kbaud, or 38.4Kbaud, which are configurable through software.

The required bus termination resistors at each end of the bus cable are 75. 100. 120. or 150 ohms.

The GE controllers have an isolation rating of 2000 volts and a transient common mode rejection isolation rating of 1500 volts.

It is rated at 300 mA. The bus controller is rated at 5 volts DC.

The bus controller has advanced diagnostic capabilities to accurately locate faults and errors in the operation of the PLC system.
