Applications

The 540CID01 is a module in the RTU540 product family consisting of a communication unit (CMU), a multiple input/output module (IOM) and a galvanically isolated wide-range power supply (IOM).

The 540CID01 is a module in the RTU540 product family consisting of a communication unit (CMU), a multi-input/output module (IOM), and a galvanically isolated wide-range power supply (PSM) in a DIN rail metal housing.

Key tasks include

– Managing and controlling the RTU520 I/O module via the serial I/O bus

– Reading process events from the input modules

– Sending commands to the output modules.

– Communication with the control system and the local HMI system via serial and www.abb-drive.com Ethernet interfaces.

– Communicates with sub-RTUs, IEDs, or multimeter devices via serial and Ethernet interfaces.

– Manages the time base of the RTU540 product line station and synchronizes the I/O modules.

– Handles the dialog between the RTU540 product line and a web browser via LAN and USB interfaces.

– Acquisition of 8 analog input signals (mA or V signals) with a fast scan cycle of 100 ms for 2 inputs – Acquisition of 16 digital input signals with a fast scan cycle of 100 ms for 2 inputs

Acquisition of 16 digital input signals, 1 high-speed counter input (max. 16 kHz)

– 8 output contacts (normally open), 1-pole or 2-pole outputs

The device is equipped with a battery-buffered real-time clock (RTC).

The device is available in two versions:

– R0001: Process voltage 24 … 60 V DC

– R0002: Process voltage 110 … 125 V DC 125 V DC

Input/Output Controller (IOC)

The microcontroller on the module handles all key tasks for the parameterized processing functions.

In addition, it communicates interactively with the RTU I/O bus. All configuration data and processing parameters are loaded by the communication unit via the RTU I/O bus.

The binary input unit performs the following processing functions for different types of signals:

– Digital filtering to suppress contact jumps

– Suppression of oscillating signals generated during the process

– Intermediate input state with double indication of validity check and suppression

– Consistency check of all channels assigned to digital measured values or step position information

– Summing of incremental pulses to form a combined total in a 31-bit resolution register.

– Copying of the combined total to a freeze register for data storage

The Binary Output Unit can perform the following processing functions for individual signal types:

– Control command output duration

Command monitor function:

– Output relay check on the module (m out of 8)

– Switching voltage monitoring before and during output (24 V DC coil voltage)

– Command output duration monitoring

The analog input unit performs the following processing functions on the measured values:

– Scan period and line frequency interference suppression

– Zero value monitoring and switching detection

– Smoothing

– Threshold monitoring in absolute or cumulative values

– Periodic transmission and background cycling

The module provides a data buffer for storing up to 160 event messages (including timestamps) in time.

The events are stored in a specified chronological order for transmission to the communication unit (CMU).

During initialization and operation, the module performs a series of tests. If a fault occurs, it is reported to the CMU.

All fault conditions affecting the function of the module are indicated as common fault signals by means of red LEDs. Module faults are detected by the communication unit.

The module 540CID01 provides 16 galvanically isolated inputs for up to 16 binary process signals.

The input signals are scanned and processed with a time resolution of up to 1 ms. The input signals can be assigned to processing functions according to configurable rules.

The module 540CID01 can process the following types of signals or combinations of signals:

– 16 time-stamped single-point messages (SPI)

– 8 time-stamped double-point messages (DPI)

– 2 8-bit digital measured values (DMI8)

– 1 16-bit digital measurement (DMI16)

– 16 integrated totals (max. 120 Hz) (ITI) including 1 high-speed counter (max. 16 kHz)

– 2 step position information, 8 bits each (STI)

– 2 bit string inputs, 8 bits each (BSI8)

– 1 16-bit bit string input (BSI16)

– or a combination of these signal types
